General Information

Cherry and Lemon Tree groups

We offer a Montessori kindergarten for 2,5 to 6 year olds that ensures that each child can follow his/her individual path within a prepared environment.
This prepared environment is set up in such a way that it allows each child’s personality to flourish, while observing their needs and guiding their development. We work with the children in the following classical Montessori areas:

– practical life
– sensorial
– language
– cultural studies
– mathematics
– art
– grace and courtesy

Routine

Both kindergarten groups (Cherry Tree and Lemon Tree groups) work on the same daily routine – the children have the opportunity to work freely (within clear limits) in all the 6 inside areas as well as our working garden until around 11:00am.
After a short morning circle, the younger children go into the play-garden for an hour while the older children have circle time grouped according to their age.
The children all have lunch at 12:30pm and after lunch, the youngest children have quiet time whereas the other children have a work period or poetry time.
At 2pm the younger children have their circle times, while the older children go outside to play.
Pick-up time is between 2:45pm-3:00pm.
We provide extra afternoon care until 5.30pm for the children of the kindergarten groups (2.5-6 year olds) – no afternoon care is available for crèche children.

Principles

The children are involved in all processes of the kindergarten day – they help with setting up the room, with preparing snack, as well as washing up their snack dishes; tidying up everything they use; setting the lunch tables, serving themselves and others and clearing up their dishes; getting themselves dressed and undressed; helping with cleaning shelves and windows and floors; feeding our animals, planting and harvesting in our Working Garden and many, many other activities that help them to learn how to take care of themselves, others and their environment.

In addition to these basic daily activities, Montessori materials and activities are presented to and repeated by the children every day, corresponding to their current Sensitive Period (their current learning interest that comes from within them). This work promotes their intellectual, social and physical development. Subsequently, they are able to choose freely from these materials, and learn new concepts very quickly and easily with the guidance of the teachers. The children at our kindergarten therefore learn to read, write, work with numbers and know about the world and its environment very early on. Through our regular Grace and Courtesy lessons as well as our general interactions with each other, the children also learn the importance of kindness and respect, not only for themselves, but also for others and their environment.

We are an English-speaking kindergarten and our primary focus is on developing a high level of English language skills in all children. We also introduce the German language to all children through a variety of activities.

We are here to work for the children, to help them grow and develop within a Montessori prepared environment, which allows the children to reach their full potential and by working together with the parents, we aim to provide the children with the best start to life possible.

Snack and Lunch

Healthy snack prepared by children – fresh bread and butter or porridge, fresh fruit and vegetables
Lunch is provided by an external caterer – the food is wholesome and organic/local whenever possible, no additives are used. Our support staff prepare fresh garden vegetables daily for the children to eat with lunch. We eat fresh fruit as a snack after nap-time and we drink only water and unsweetened fruit tea at our kindergarten.

We also use our own home-grown fruit and vegetables whenever available to cook and bake.

We provide food for children with food allergies – such as gluten, lactose and egg allergies. No nuts are contained in any of our food.
We eat vegetarian meals at least three times per week, on days when meat or fish are on the menu, a vegetarian alternative is available.
